826H Landfill Compactor

The Cat 826H Landfill Compactor was designed with exciting innovations that exceed customer expectations for performance, reliability and operator comfort.

Power Train

The 826H power train delivers top performance and durability in tough applications.

Cat C15 Engine with ACERT Technology

The Cat C15 engine is an increased displacement version of the proven Cat 3406 engine. The C15 is U.S. EPA Tier 3EU Stage III compliant and features a 3.5 percent horsepower increase over the previous 3406. The four stroke engine delivers fuel economy, durability and reliability in the most demanding conditions. High torque rise delivers performance you can feel with greater rimpull, lift force and faster cycle times. Resilient engine mounts dampen vibration for lower sound levels.

Engine Lubrication

Engine lubricating oil is filtered, cooled and supplied by a geartype pump.

Mechanical Electronic Unit Injector MEUI

MEUI is a highpressure, direct injection fuel system that is virtually adjustmentfree. It electronically monitors operator and sensor inputs to optimize engine performance.

AirtoAir Aftercooler ATAAC System

The ATAAC system provides separate cooling for the intake manifold air. It routes hot, compressed air from the turbo and cools it with a single pass, airtoair aluminum heat exchanger. The cooled, compressed air greatly reduces the emissions produced, meeting U.S. EPA Tier 3EU Stage III requirements. ulli Airflow matched turbocharger with power rating helps reduce emissionslili 19 percent more bearing area allows the engine to operate at the maximum cylinder pressurelili Higher cylinder pressure capability helps reduce fuel consumption and improves high altitude operation and provides reduced emissions liulCylinder heat exhaust port sleeves reduce heat rejection which results in less heat transfer into the water jacket system and provides high torque rise.

Next Generation Modular Radiator NGMR

The parallel flow system with seven cores standard for use in high ambient temperatures improves cooling capabilities. Serviceability is also enhanced as there is no top tank to remove. The NGMR uses copper brazed brass tubes and six wide spaced copper alloy fins per inch.

ADEMIV Advanced Diesel Engine Management System

ADEMIV uses a 32bit computer with sensors throughout the engine to regulate fuel delivery, valve timing and all other engine systems that require input to manage load and performance. ADEMIV also offers automatic altitude compensation, a cold mode startup strategy, oil pressure and coolant warnings which result in precise engine speed control, superior cold start capability, low smoke and emissions in all operating conditions.

Transmission

The extreme duty, planetary, powershift Cat transmission features heavyduty components to handle the toughest jobs. The four planet drives operate in all gears forward and reverse. Electronic controls provide features to enhance productivity, durability and serviceability. The addition of the Electronic Clutch Pressure Control ECPC contributes to improved shift quality, reduced torque spikes and overall transmission durability. Control Throttle Shift CTS offers smoother shifts and improves clutch and power train life by reducing engine speed automatically before shifting.

Torque Converter

The torque converter uses a highcapacity impeller to handle the engines increased torque rise 19 percent and power.

HeavyDuty Axles

The fixed front and oscillating 5 degrees rear heavyduty axles feature strong gears and bearings in both the differentials and heavyduty final drives for increased durability. Permanently lubricated, maintenancefree Ujoints result in fewer parts and improved serviceability. Free floating axles shafts can be removed independently from the wheels and planetary drives.

Spindles and Final Drives

Planetary units can be removed independently from the wheels and brakes. The final drives feature planetary reduction at each wheel, and with torque developed at the wheel, less stress is placed on the axle shafts.

Differentials

Conventional front and optional NoSPIN rear differentials deliver maximum traction in low traction or inconsistent ground conditions.

Service Brakes

Completely enclosed and located in the front axles, before each final drive. The service brakes are selfadjusting with modulated engagement and designed for easy servicing. With two brake pedals, the right pedal controls standard braking while engine deceleration and braking occurs with the left pedal.

ParkingSecondary Brake

The springapplied, oilreleased, dry drum design parking brake is mounted on the transmission output shaft driveline for manual operation and can be applied manually by the operator. The Caterpillar Monitoring System alerts the operator if the transmission is engaged while the parking brake is applied.

Cold Start

The cold start feature is improved by not only ADEMIV but also a new larger starter and four higher CCA batteries 1,000 CCA.

Trash Protection and Cooling System

The 826H is built to work in one of the toughest heavy equipment applications on the planet...the solid waste landfill.

Cooling System

The 826H is designed specifically for landfill compactors operating at 100 percent engine load. At these conditions, the ambient capability is above the benchmark of 43 degrees C 110 degrees F, demonstrating the machines purposebuilt cooling system.

Next Generation Modular Radiator NGMR

There are seven cores in the 826H NGMR. These high ambient, six fins per inch modular cores are standard so there is no need for a high ambient or extreme service cooling package.

RoofMounted Air Conditioner

The roofmounted air conditioner makes the rear cooling package easier to clean because the AC core is removed from the rear. It also reduces the frequency of cleaning for the condenser core, providing better cooling to the cab for longer periods of time.

Air Inlet Screen

The air inlet screen is vertically corrugated, fine mesh to help reduce trash from entering the radiator area and allow debris to fall off.

AutoReversing, HydraulicallyDriven Fan

The electronicallycontrolled, hydraulicallydriven, ondemand fan system reduces sound levels and increases fuel economy while providing maximum cooling efficiency by directing power through the system as needed. With the electronic control of continuously variablespeed fan, temperature levels of the engine coolant, transmission oil, hydraulic oil and air inlet manifold are constantly monitored. This information is used to control and maintain fan speed at the level necessary to maintain normal system temperatures. It also reverses direction for 20 seconds every 30 minutes or manually from the cab, to purge the intake screens of debris.

SwingOut Radiator Fan

The fan can swing out 65 degrees to provide access to the cooling cores from the side opposite the direction of airflow. This is the ideal side from which to clean the radiator and enables the system to be accessed wrenchfree and cleaned in 15 minutes or less.

ElectronicallyActuated Engine and Power Train Guards

Guards help prevent trash buildup and shield components from demolition debris, trash, wire, rebar and chemicals while allowing access for the cleaning and maintenance.

Bolt Protection

Located on the machine bottom, bolt protection prevents premature wear.

Cab Bottom Guard

Hoses and wires beneath the cab are protected from damage due to flying debris and waste by the cab bottom guards.

Striker Bars

Located in front of and behind the rear wheels and behind the front wheels, striker bars provide protection from trash that can be thrown or carried by the wheels.

Hydraulic Tank and Steering Cylinders

Guarding on the hydraulic tank and steering cylinders protects them from damage, yet the oil sight gauge is visible for easy checking.

Optional Cleaner Fingers

Cleaner fingers provide maximum capability to maintain clean Plus Tip wheels when working in very cohesive materials and the most severe packing conditions.

Hitch Pin Retainer Guard

The hitch pin retaining plate is protected from wear and sudden impact by the hitch pin retainer guard that extends from the front belly toward the hitch.

Front Frame Guards

Front frame guards prevent trash buildup inside the frame that could harm hydraulic lines. The lift lines are in a high location where damage from debris is less likely.

Optional Rear Fan and Grill Guard

A robust, swingout gate mounted on the rear bumper provides additional protection for the rear fan and grill.

Hydraulics

Wellbalanced hydraulics deliver precise, loweffort control and troublefree operation.

Hydraulic System

The hydraulic system provides loweffort blade control. Seat mounted levers send electrical signals to a pilot valve mounted on the front frame, moving the sound, heat and effort caused by the hydraulic valve out of the operators station.

Hydraulic Power Steering

Centerpoint frame articulation permits the front and rear wheels to track with hydraulic power steering. The hydraulic system has fullflow filtering. The steering wheel operated pilot valve controls flow to the steering cylinders. The steering angle is 43 degrees.

Load Sensing Steering

With load sensing steering, machine performance is maximized because power is directed to the steering system only when the operator steers the machine. This allows more power to be applied to the ground when the machine is not being steered. It also helps decrease fuel consumption since the steering system does not constantly draw on the engine.

Command Control or Steering and Integrated Transmission Controller STIC Steering

Innovatively designed Command Control or STIC steering offer a mechanical feedback system and a redesigned valve ratio that provide quarterturn wheel or sidetoside STIC steering. Unlike systems that rely on steering wheel velocity to activate steering cylinders, this system directly links steering wheel or STIC position to the articulation angle. This provides ulli Precise controllili Quicker responselili Dramatically reduced operator motion and effortliul

Positive Displacement Hydraulic Pumps

All hydraulic pumps are mounted on a single pump drive for improved serviceability

XT3 and XT6 Hose

Reliable XT3 ES and XT6 ES hoses, along with oring face seals and a large capacity life cylinder complete the hydraulic system. Reliable components reduce the risk of leaks and blown lines, helping protect the environment and reducing operating costs.

Wheels and Tips

Caterpillar offers a choice of tips and blades welded on our own steel wheels that will fit your needs. No matter what your choice may be, it is part of the total system our compactors offer maximum production, performance and compaction.

Standard Equipment

The standard 826H tip offering is the longlife Plus Tips that provide excellent traction and sidehill stability with a selfcleaning layout that resists plugging. An option is the selfcleaning chopper blades for shredding material. All choices are specifically designed for Cat steel wheels.

Plus Tips

The Plus Tips with Abrasion Resistant Material ARM have a plusshaped design for superior compaction and sidehill stability on sloped material. A widely spaced tip pattern requires fewer tips than other manufacturers and results in less plugging, lower replacement cost and maximum compaction. Plus Tips are guaranteed for 10,000 hours or four years of wear life. They offer the lowest cost per hour of any compactor tips in the industry.

SelfCleaning Chopper Wheels

Designed to deliver maximum compaction and traction, the selfcleaning chopper wheels offer aggressive chopping action from 24 blades per wheel. Heat treated DH2, ARM steel blades provide longer wear. The staggered chevron blade arrangement evenly distributes chopping coverage. Blade center gussets help assure maximum refuse demolition. Blades are mounted differently on the front and rear wheels to maximize chopping and compaction in both forward and reverse.

WeldOn Traction Tips

Weldon traction tips are designed for landfill applications where maximum traction is required. These tips perform best in frozen or other difficult to penetrate applications. Designed and built to Cat standards, these tips are forged for maximum strength and ARM is applied to critical wear areas.

Smooth Wheel Option

If our tip selection does not meet your needs, consider Cat smooth steel wheels with your AEM tips. We design, test and build a complete Cat system. Our Caterpillar wheel team who works together with our power train, structures and manufacturing engineers design and manufacture our wheels in the same facility in which the machines are designed and built. This ensures the entire system is complemented by each component. If you alter components, you could compromise a system that was designed and tested for peak performance. If a wheel is produced that does not meet our design specifications and does not balance the load over our final drives, it could substantially reduce the life of the bearing and wear out other components, creating unnecessary downtime. This also allows our standard axle guard system to work with the components for which it was designed.

Landfill Features

Heavyduty guarding and other features protect the machine and components from trash and debris.

Cat Axle Guard System

The final drives, planetaries and seals are protected from damage caused by wire, cable, plastics or other material that can wrap or become packed around axle components by the Cat Axle Guard System. ulli Guarding increases axle circumference to avert stringy materials from wrapping and encircling the axlelili Extended rim wheels further help to seal out materials that cling to wheel or axle surfaceslili Recessed bolt heads reduce snagging of stringy or stranded materialslili System reduces the need for periodic cleaning of axle assembliesliul

Axle Guard System Design

The axle guard system is comprised of three basic components ulli Frame bosses welded to the framelili Bolton guarding assemblies mounted onto the frame bosses and framelili Rim extensions welded directly to the wheel rimsliul

Metal Engine Enclosure

Metal engine enclosures, framing and service doors provide the durability and serviceability required for abusive landfill applications.

Optional Front Window Guard

A tubular steel guard across the bottom of the front cab glass prevents large debris from damaging the lower portion of the front windows.

The sixway adjustable seat provides comfort by reducing the pressure on the lower back and thighs while offering unrestricted arm and leg movement. Air suspension adds to the overall comfort level by smoothing the ride over rough terrain.

Blade Control and Joystick

The pod is situated at an 18 degree angle for natural wrist positioning. The controller offers a sturdy handle for multiple hand positions. The actuation button for the blade tip function is located on the joystick, providing total blade control.

Automatic Blade Positioning ABP

This patented system is intended to lower fatigue, increase comfort and make operators more productive. It mimics manual functions by automatically lowering the blade when the machine is shifted forward and raising it in reverse. The set points to where the blade raises and lowers can be easily changed from inside the cab. Additionally, a kickout feature of the system will allow the operator to raiselower the blade without having to hold the joystick in place. The operator always maintains full control of the blade during this cycle with the ability to override ABP.

Caterpillar Monitoring System

Gauges on the left side of the dash monitor fuel level, engine coolant, hydraulic oil and torque converter oil temperatures. The center panel contains the tachometerspeedometer. On the right side panel, a threelevel warning system provides fulltime monitoring of key functions. The system alerts the operator of immediate or impending problems with air inlet temperature, brake oil pressure, electrical system low voltage, engine oil pressure, engine overspeed, fuel filter status, parking brake status, steering oil pressure and transmission filter status.
