Drive TrainThe drive train provides maximum efficiency in combination with the C15 engine with ACERT Technology. |
Drawbar Pull vs. SpeedAs loads on the tractor increase, the D8T offers unmatched lugging capability and smooth shifting as the need occurs to change gears under varying loads. The 3speed forward, 3speed reverse transmission, backed by differential steering, offers excellent runout speeds and accurate steering capability under load. |
Torque DividerA high efficiency torque divider with freewheel stator provides high torque multiplication while shielding the drive train from sudden torque shocks and vibration. |
Additional FeedbackA minor, but important, byproduct of the torque divider is its tendency to increase engine lug all the way to converter stall. This gives the operator additional feedback concerning tractor speed and drawbar pull. There is high drawbar pull at converter stall. |
Differential Steering SystemA planetary differential turns the machine by speeding up one track and slowing the other, while maintaining full power to both. The system consists of ulli Three planetary gear sets lili Two planetary gear sets steering and drive make up the dual differential, which performs the traditional drive function forward or reverse. Unlike competitive machines, the differential also performs a steering function with input from the steering motor. lili A third planetary gear set, the equalizing planetary, resides inside the transmission case. It is connected to the dual differential, which provides a maximum speed difference between the right and left final drives during a turn.lili A dedicated variabledisplacement hydraulic pump.lili A bidirectional, fixeddisplacement steering motor.lili Heavyduty steering drive gears.liul |
OperationWhen moving straight ahead, power flows through the transmission pinion and bevel gear into the dual differential, transmitting equal, uninterrupted power to each final drive. While turning, power is shifted to the outboard track speeding it up. The inboard track slows down to accommodate a tighter turning radius. Forward ground speed remains the same throughout the turn. |
Power Turn with Differential SteeringWith differential steering, large blade loads can be smoothly maneuvered throughout the turn. The operator maintains precise control on slopes and around buildings, bridge abutments, trees or other obstacles. ulli Differential Steering has the ability to work in tight areas by providing a tight turning radius.lili Steering modulation is finely tuned for precise control in all turning applications.lili Regardless of ground conditions, steering is consistent because power is maintained to both tracks during operation.liul |
Planetary Power Shift TransmissionThree speeds forward and three speeds reverse, utilizing large diameter, high capacity, oilcooled clutches. ulli Modulation system permits fast speed and direction changes.lili Modular transmission and differential slide into rear case for servicing ease, even with ripper installed.lili Oiltowater cooler for maximum cooling capacity.lili Forced oil flow lubricates and cools clutch packs to provide maximum clutch life.liul |
Electronic Clutch Pressure ControlThe differential steering system has an additional drive train feature for added performance, the Electronic Clutch Pressure Control ECPC. This feature provides smoother shifting by modulating individual clutches. ECPC also provides the autoshift and autokickdown features. |
AutoShiftAutoKickdownAutoshift allows the operator, by just making a directional change, to go from preset forward to preset reverse gears. Autokickdown automatically downshifts the transmission when significant load increases are detected. These features are especially useful in backfilling or rough grading applications Depending on application, operators can select autoshift mode only, autoshift and autokickdown mode, autokickdown mode only, or manual mode. The operator may override these automatic shift features at any time. |
